FAQ
Is this the same as a standard salt spray chamber?
Not exactly. The equipment uses a salt fog generation system similar to a conventional salt spray chamber, but its application is focused on filiform corrosion evaluation of coated substrates, particularly coated aluminium under ISO 4623-2.
Can the chamber test other coating systems?
Yes. The chamber can be used for coating and corrosion research beyond a single application, provided that the environmental conditions and specimen preparation are appropriate for the selected test method.
Can the sample holder be customized?
Yes. LIB can provide customized fixtures for aluminium profiles, panels, components, and other specimen geometries.
How is filiform corrosion evaluated after testing?
The exposed specimens are examined for corrosion filaments developing from the artificial coating defect. The extent of filiform corrosion can then be evaluated according to the applicable assessment method.
ISO 4628-10:2024 provides a current method for assessing the degree of filiform corrosion, including measurement of filament length.
